Nutritional Challenges in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Neuromuscular diseases (NMDs) represent a heterogeneous group of acquired or inherited conditions. Nutritional complications are frequent in NMDs, but they are sometimes underestimated. With the prolongation of survival in patients with NMDs, there are several nutritional aspects that are important to consider, including the deleterious effects of overnutrition on glucose metabolism, mobility, ...
متن کاملTreatment of Nutritional Muscular Dystrophy in Lambs
∗ E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT This study was applied on a total number of 40 native breed lambs from Dakahlia governorate, their ages being ranged from 5 to 26 days, in order to declare the effects of nutritional muscular dystrophy as an oxidative stress in lambs and the effect of vitamin C administration in enhancing the treatment of Nutritional Muscular Dystrophy (NMD), decreasing...
متن کاملNerve Endings in Nutritional Muscular Dystrophy in Guinea Pigs
The nutritional muscle dystrophy of guinea pigs and rabbits is primarily a degeneration of the muscle fibers and is not associated with visible alterations of the peripheral nerves or their motor terminals.
متن کاملMuscle Phosphorus in Nutritional Muscular Dystrophy in Rabbits*
Rabbits and guinea pigs upon certain diets develop an extreme degeneration of the skeletal muscles (15, 22). The onset of these muscle lesions may be delayed or prevented by the inclusion of vegetable oils in the diet (21, 26, 31) or by vitamin E concentrates (23). In dystrophic muscle the creatine content is lower than normal and roughly proportional to the amount of pathological degeneration ...
متن کاملNutritional muscular dystrophy in a four-day-old Connemara foal
This report describes a four-day-old, full-term Connemara colt, presented for the evaluation of a progressive inability to rise unassisted. A diagnosis of nutritional muscular dystrophy was made based on muscular weakness, elevated muscle enzymes and low vitamin E, selenium and glutathione peroxidase activity. The foal was treated with intramuscular vitamin E-selenium and made a full recovery.
